MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS by Wong Kar Wai and PROMISE ME THIS by Emir Kusturica

Christal Films Distribution is excited to be the Canadian distributor of Wong Kar Wai’s My Blueberry Nights, the Opening Film of the 60th Annual Cannes Films Festival. Christal is also pleased to be at Cannes this year with Emir Kusturica’s Promise Me This  which, along with My Blueberry Nights, is in competition as an Official Selection.

My Blueberry Nights
is Wong Kar Wai’s (Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love, 2046) first English-language feature. A poignant and sometimes comic love story, the film draws the audience on a journey across the landscape of America. In her film debut, singer Norah Jones is a woman who, in the pursuit of true love, takes to the open road. During her journey, she meets a host of enigmatic characters, each providing their own kind of wisdom to help her on her quest. The all-star cast includes Academy award winners and nominees such as Jude Law (Cold Mountain, Closer, The Aviator), Natalie Portman (Garden State, Closer, Star Wars : Episode I, II and III), Rachel Weisz (The Fountain, The Constant Gardener, Sunshine), David Strathairn (Fracture, Good Night, and Good Luck), Ed Harris (A History of Violence, Pollock) and Tim Roth (Dark Water, Invincible).

Promise Me This
opens on remote hilltop in Serbia, where a young man lives with his ailing grand-father. The drama unfolds when the old man sends his grandson to the nearest town in search of a wife to bring back home. After garnering notice with first feature, Do You Remenber Dolly Bell? (1981, Golden Lion for Best Film - Venice Film Festival), this Serbian director has also directed, amongst others, When Father Was Away on Business (1985, Golden Palm - Cannes Film Festival), Arizona Dream (1993, Silver Bear, Special Jury Prize - Berlin International Film Festival), Underground (1995, Golden Palm - Cannes Film Festival), Black Cat, White Cat (1998, Little Golden Lion and Silver Lion for Best Director - Venice Film Festival) and Life is a Miracle (2004, Best European Union Film - Césars).

The two films will be released in Canada by Christal Films Distribution in 2007 and 2008. The release dates will be determined at a later date.
